Schulich Admission Guidelines

The Schulich Leaders program is an Excellence program at the Technion designed for undergraduate students with experience, interest, and real potential in innovation and entrepreneurship. The purpose of the program is to train students for an entrepreneurial career path in startup, industry, and academia through learning the best and most relevant theoretical tools from the Technion’s resources and experimenting with project development while being mentored by the best academics and industry figures in the field.

The Schulich program will provide each student with tuition and annual living scholarships. It will accompany them on the way to formulating, perfecting, and developing their entrepreneurial abilities.

Admission to the program: 

  1. The program will accept up to 15 students each year.
  2. The program is for students about to begin their sophomore year.
  3. The duration of the program is two years (in the case of three-year study tracks) or three years (in the case of four-year study tracks).
  4. Students from all faculties and programs at the Technion can apply for the Schulich Leaders program except the MD track in the Faculty of Medicine.
  5. The ideal candidate is a student with a background and experience in entrepreneurship, a life experience that demonstrates leadership ability, creativity, and an ability to think outside the box.
  6. The program will prioritize students with outstanding academic excellence but will reserve the right to accept additional students with proven entrepreneurial experience.
  7. The program will prioritize students who meet the above requirements and are also in financial need* (students that meet the Student Aid Unit financial aid criteria).

Call for Applications: 

  1. The program will publish A call for applications during the spring semester. 
  2. All first-year students on-campus (excluding the MD track in the Faculty of Medicine) can apply for the program.
  3. The application process will require students to submit the following documents:
    1. Up-to-date transcript.
    2. A short personal letter (up to 1500 words) detailing the interest, background, and experience in entrepreneurship and/or leadership.
    3. A short video. Students will detail in up to 1-minute video why and how they qualify for the program. 
    4. Contact Information.
    5. 1-3 recommendations 
    6. If relevant – Approval from the Dean’s financial aid unit regarding eligibility for financial aid.

 

The Admission Process: 

  1. Preliminary selection. The admission committee will select 30 students according to the admission criteria outlined above. Those 30 students will proceed to the next and final stage of the selection process, the summer workshop. The selection is the responsibility of the program’s academic head. The admission committee will include the program staff (program head and program coordinator). They will consult with faculty members from the Technion and professionals with entrepreneurial backgrounds and backgrounds in human resources.
  2. The summer workshop. The 30 candidates who passed the initial selection will participate in an intensive summer workshop that emphasizes leadership, creativity, expression, organization, and teamwork skills. From 30 candidates, 15 students will start the program at the end of the workshop. The selection of students in the final screening phase is the responsibility of the program head. The team that will select the students will include the program head, the program coordinator, and the workshop staff. The workshop staff consists of a guide from the senior academic staff and assistants specializing in screening workshops. The selection of students is under the sole authority of the Technion staff.

 

Conditions: 

  1. Admission is for all years of participation in the program.
  2. The scholarship will be awarded for two years (for students in three-year study tracks) or three years (in four-year study tracks).
  3. The scholarship is conditional on meeting the academic threshold conditions (academic integrity).
  4. The scholarship is conditional on full participation in the program’s activities, including courses, workshops, program forum meetings, and an entrepreneurial project in the past year.
  5. During the program’s final year (third or fourth academic year, depending on the course of study), students are expected to devote considerable time to the entrepreneurial project. This year the work of the scholarship students will not be allowed.
  6. Students whose studies at the Technion will be suspended, temporarily or permanently, on an academic, disciplinary, or other background will not be able to continue participating in the program and will lose their eligibility for a scholarship.
